Larry losing game of cat and mouse

No 10 Downing Street has rebuffed calls for Larry the cat to be sacked, after reports that a mouse appeared in the dinning room during a recent Prime Ministerial lunch. Larry, bought in February of this year, was brought in to tackle the rising rodent problem at No 10 Downing Street. The problem became obvious to all when a large rat was seen scuttling past the door of No 10 during a live television broadcast. Larry is five years old and came from Battersea Dog and Cat home. He was described as having “a high chase-drive and hunting instinct”. He had developed these skills during his time on the street. Back in June this year, the Prime Minister was quoted as saying that Larry was “a good mouser” and has caught three mice since his arrival at No 10.

But perhaps Larry’s time on Downing Street is nearing an end as the mice and rats get ever more confident and ever more visible. Suspicions that perhaps Larry has indeed taken his eye off the job in hand were confirmed, when a spokesman from the Royal Parks openly stated that Larry had struck up a “close” friendship with a cat called Maisie who lives at the nearby St James’ Park Keepers Cottage.

So is this another scandal for the members of Downing Street to fend off, and will there be an investigation into Larry’s expenses? Is he spending our hard earned taxes on wining and dining the fabulous Maisie every evening rather than focusing on his brief to rid Downing Street of vermin? And did Larry ‘embellish’ his CV to make him look like the right candidate for the job. Does he really have a good “hunting instinct” for rodents, and perhaps his “high chase-drive” does not actually apply to mice, but his interest in the ladies!

Since receiving the backing of Downing Street, like many that have gone before him, it would seem that Larry may have to go soon before he is pushed!
